POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING PHARMA PACKAGING MACHINERY

In the pharma industry, there's no margin for error. Whether it be the research, product development, product manufacturing or packaging process, the highest levels of precision, hygiene and quality are mandatory. Stringent GMP, FDA and other compliances have to be met.

Choosing new pharmaceutical packagingmachines can be a confusing, stressful experience. There are so many manufacturers, suppliers and equipment models to choose from, and the cost implications can be huge. Here are some points to keep in mind when selecting your pharma packaging machinery.

1. Output capacity

Output capacity depends on the speed of your machine. Depending on your output requirement, choose a packaging machine thatcan deliver as per specifications. A machine that runs too fast or too slow can be problematic for your operators.

2. Digital capabilities

The pharma industry runs on the power of information technology and automation. A machine with advanced digital capabilities increases efficiency and enhances ease of use. From touch screens and all-access control to IoT compatible systems - pharma equipment with these capabilities will make your processes more productive, accurate and manageable.

3. Cleaning ease

Cleaning is an essential component of any manufacturing process but it shouldn't be complicated or involve huge amounts of downtime. Look for a machine that offers easy disconnect features. It will make cleaning faster, easier, and less stressful for your operators.

4. Production scale

Research industry requirements will naturally differ from those of industrial scale production lines. Machines can be oflab-scale and commercial-scale, so being clear about what type of equipment you need will make your selection easier and more effective.

5. Ease of operation

While modern machines are fully automatic, human intervention cannot be completely ruled out. Man-machine interaction still prevails, so you need a machine or pharma packaging line that is easy to understand and operate. Your equipment shouldn't be so simple as to miss out the latest innovations or technical features, nor should it be too complex to handle. With proper training, your operators should be able to efficiently manage day-to-day operations of the system.

6. Helpful, reliable supplier

Pharmaceutical machinery is a substantial investment, so find a supplier who deals in reputed brands and proven models. Your supplier should also have the knowhow, skills and experience to deliver and service high quality automatic packaging machines. Above all, your supplier should understand your industry needs and criteria, and patiently guide you through the best options.

Genius Packaging Requires Creative Engineering

The power of innovative packaging

Be it a heart shaped box of chocolates, a star shaped packet of shampoo or a pear shaped bottle of juice, we all have to admit that we’re immediately drawn to products that are packaged better, or just differently. Our super-market shelves are lined with examples of creatively packaged products, in fruit shaped cartons, animal shaped sachets and sphere shaped bottles. And it’s only getting more imaginative.

“What’s in the packaging?”, you ask? “Everything”, is what prudent manufacturers in the consumer-goods industry will tell you. The problem today is that you, as consumer, have way too much to choose from. And a manufacturer of ketchup, for instance, can only make his ketchup so much different from his closest competitors; but there is no end to how creative he can get with the packaging. Differentiation in packaging is what the choice boils down to. The truth is that we would even pay a premium for superior, more interesting packaging.

The unique problem it poses

This competition to make products stand out on retail shelves poses a unique problem for packaging machine manufacturers - to be able to fill any kind of container with any kind of liquid. This is where creative engineering comes in.

We buy all sorts of liquids for daily use - oils, shampoos, creams, pastes and so on. All of these have differentiating properties that cause them to flow differently. One such critical specification is “viscosity” - the measure of a liquids ability to resist flow. Easy-flowing, water-like liquids have low viscosity, while thicker liquids have higher viscosities. Other characteristics that come into play include temperature, particle size, pH and degree of foaminess. Characteristics such as “lubricity” and “abrasiveness” also need to be taken into account.

Hence, innovative packaging solutions require packaging machine manufacturers to meticulously research hundreds of product applications—from chemicals and lubricants to beverages—in order to design genius liquid filling machines that can fill various types of containers – and do so rapidly and accurately. Further, they need to invent different kinds of liquid packaging machines to suit different kinds of packaging requirements.

The inventive solution

Packaging machine manufacturers like, Nichrome India Ltd, invest heavily in research and development, to devise automatic filling machines and automatic packaging machines to keep up with the demand for innovative packaging solutions.

Automatic liquid filling machines have different kinds of nozzles and fill-systems, suited to the different types of liquids; whereas liquid packaging machines are calibrated to suit the various kinds of packaging options – bottles, packets and sachets, cartons, etc.

Special pouch filling machines and sachet filling machines, that can fill and seal a wide range of liquids in a vast variety of pouches and sachets have been made available to industrial manufacturers thanks to cutting-edge technology developed by visionary engineers. These allow manufacturers to fill and seal liquid products into almost any kind of packet  – 3 side seal, 4 side seal, contour pack, stand up pack, twin sachet, packets with zippers, packets with spouts and what have you!

Manufacturers can, not only select an automatic liquid filling and packaging machinery based on the type of liquid they manufacture and the shape of packaging they desire, but also based on other priorities like reliability and hygiene or speed and accuracy or the space occupied by the machine. For example, speed, accuracy and minimum wastage would be the criteria for selecting an appropriate oil filling machine while hygiene and freshness would be of prime importance for milk filling and packaging.

Most of the automatic filling machines and automatic packaging machines available today are equipped with digital screens to enable the manufacturer to easily adjust the settings according to production needs.
